Risk-based internal audit: from findings to action plans.
My contribution
Carried out risk-based internal audit projects, identified control and operational issues, analysed their root causes, and developed action plans with implementation timelines.
I personally provided hands-on audit guidance at RHD using the government RBIA manual, with the audit report issued in 2025.
Value delivered
Provided a structured assessment of key weaknesses and practical recommendations, giving management a clear basis for prioritising corrective action.
- Risk-focused findings to bring control and operational weaknesses to management’s attention.
- Root-cause analysis to explain why the issues arose.
- Corrective action plans and timelines to guide implementation and follow-up.
Implementation challenges
Implementation faced fragmented accountability, with no single owner responsible for driving the overall action plan. Administrative processes and limits on delegated authority also constrained officials’ ability to implement many recommendations.
What this experience brings to clients
Effective audit requires more than identifying issues. Recommendations need clear ownership, sufficient decision-making authority, realistic timelines and leadership oversight to translate them into lasting improvements.
This experience informs my work with clients seeking practical audit recommendations and stronger arrangements for implementing and following up corrective action.
